Direct thermal and thermal transfer printing techniques are in use since 1940’s and they are the best printing technique for barcodes. Direct thermal printing uses a heat sensitive paper, and thermal transfer printing requires the use of a thermal transfer ribbon. Thermal trasfer printing is the best method for labels with barcodes that will be exposed to multiple scannings. These methods are relatively cost effective and can be used for a variety of label materials. They produce excellent quality images.
